PLAYER
CHARACTER
NAME: Misa Amane
CANON: Death Note
CANON POINT: Chapter 56
AGE: 19
SPECIES: Human
INFORMATION: Wiki Link
CHARACTER PITCH: Part time popular idol and part time overly-possessive and overly-murderous girlfriend to the lead protagonist of her series. Fell in love at first sight with (and then stalked) the protag who was killing criminals with a magical notebook to "clean up" the world from crime - she wholeheartedly agrees with his ideals due to her parents being killed by a violent criminal. Airheaded but loyal to a fault, she also becomes a magical notebook killer. The ditzier, more chaotic partner in crime to a cold, calculating protagonist.
POWERS:
Misa has Shinigami eyes, meaning she can see any person's full name and lifespan. If a character is well known by a nick-name, or goes by an alias, she will be able to see their "real name" (ex: seeing the name 'Clark Kent' when she looks at 'Superman'). While she can see lifespans, she cannot understand how long a person has to live; they appear as a list of numbers, and only a Shinigami can truly decipher them.
This is a diagram of how much she must see of a person in order to see their name and lifespan. She can also see them through a photograph or video, but a drawing alone will not work.
Lastly, in addition to being able to see these qualities about people, Misa's eyesight is unnaturally accurate, with the visual acuity of about 72/20. This makes it extremely easy for her to notice small details, or see people from far distances away.
QUESTIONNAIRE
What is the worst or most malicious thing your character has ever done? How do they feel about it now? Was this sort of action typical of them?
The most malicious thing she has done is kill people on national television who were largely innocent, as well as innocent people outside the broadcasting station that tried to stop it. Not only did she kill these people, she purposely predicted their deaths via a television broadcast, and killed them live on the air using her notebook. The crime they committed that made her believe they were worthy of death? Disagreeing with her and her idol, Kira's (aka her boyfriend, Light Yagami's), ideals.
Misa feels zero remorse for doing this, considering her actions to be just. In fact, even when confronted about the morality of her decisions to kill these people, she claims that sometimes, there has to be sacrifices for the greater good of changing the world. As her primary motivation for killing these people was to get the attention of Kira, and because in the end, she succeeded in doing so, she thinks these actions were worth it.
This is typical behavior on her part; Misa is often impulsive and reactionary, killing those she feels deserve it without hesitation (provided she has her Death Note) unless she is told explicitly not to.
What is the most altruistic or selfless thing your character has ever done? How do they feel about it now? Was this sort of action typical of them?
The most selfless thing Misa has done is halve her lifespan twice for the sake of her boyfriend, Light Yagami. In paying the price of half her lifespan, Misa was able to gain the Shinigami eyes, which allow her to see the names of anyone she looks at — necessary information to kill someone with the Death Note. As she felt that having the eyes made her a useful tool to Light, and feeling strongly that she would do anything at all to help him and earn his love, Misa happily paid this price not once, but twice over the course of the series.
This is typical behavior on her part; Misa is incredibly self-sacrificing when it comes to those she loves. Because she has knowledge that she has already outlived her natural lifespan (basically, she was supposed to die but it was prevented by supernatural causes), she has a very "I'm living on borrowed time anyway, doesn't matter if I throw some of it away for someone I love" attitude. Further than that, her feelings of attachment to those she loves are so intense that it is common for her to go to bizarre extremes to protect and help those people.
What do they desire above all else? How far would they go to accomplish their goals or fulfill those desires? Do they have lines they wouldn't cross?
Misa desires to be loved by Light above all else, and goes as far as to say that she values that over the entire world. Her primary goal, aside from winning and keeping Light's affection, is to create "a new world with only kind people in it." Because that goal is Light's as well, she is doubly motivated to do whatever it takes to achieve it. In sum, she's willing to do basically anything, up to and including enduring severe pain and trauma, and killing hundreds of people.
The ultimate line she won't cross is bringing any harm to Light, or threatening her future with him. She would never betray him or his ideals. Aside from that, there is little Misa won't do, granted that she's convinced that what she's doing is moving her closer to achieving her goals. She is capable of killing innocents and can typically justify and remove herself from responsibility of cruelty.
GAME DETAILS
LEGACY: Lover. Misa's primary motivations for her actions are her feelings towards other people. She values her relationship with her boyfriend, Light, over the rest of the entire world— and love is the most important thing to Misa by far. She is extremely codependent, to the point of possessiveness, so she embodies even the extreme points of this legacy.
INTRODUCTORY SECT: Kenoma. I feel Misa is suited to this sect because her current ideology actually aligns quite well with Kenoma's. Her quest alongside Light is to transform the world she lives in into one that has no crime, and where only kind people live - she already sees the world as rotten and in need of transformation. If she could be convinced that Kenoma could help her build a perfect, new world for herself and Light to live in, she would need very little nudging to pledge her loyalty. Additionally, in her quest on her Earth to transform the world, she's already killed hundreds of people - she's primed for needing to hurt others along the way, and wouldn't be disgusted or turned away by most of Kenoma's methods.
I feel she is especially suited to this sect because she is incredibly dedicated to her hopes of creating a new world, and would easily see allying with Kenoma as a way to help make that dream a reality (and by extension, would see allying herself with Kenoma as a way to get Light to love her more.)
SUITABILITY: I want to play Misa in this game because I think the faction set up will give me an opportunity to play out her less-than-savory morals. When I read the Kenoma faction information, it made me think of how well Misa would fit in there, and I thought it'd be a fun contrast to have a cheery, peppy character in the despairing, remake the world faction.
As far as loyalty to Kenoma, Misa is incredibly loyal when she allies herself with a cause or person, and won't give up information or her alliance even when under torture. I don't see her ever wanting to leave that faction in favor of the other— if she could be convinced that Kenoma could help her achieve her goals, she would never stray from there, even if offered great wealth or if her life was threatened to do otherwise.
Based on the game info, the arc I would be looking to do would be for Misa to have a little more agency over the honestly terrible things she was doing in her canon. A lot of the time, she was killing because Light told her to do it, or because she wanted to impress him. But in this game, I'd like to feed off of her original feelings of contempt she had for the world she was living in, and explore how she herself wanted to make a new world too. She had a bone to pick with the world, and a vengeance she wanted to carry out. Unlike other characters in her canon, she has a willingness to do heinous things like kill innocent people or kill people based on whim, and I'd like to explore that darker and more chaotic side of her while she would be in Kenoma. So that's the basic concept I would be looking to do if I were to be in the game!
